History & Beliefs

History
The Chapel began in January of 1999 as Worship and the Word, a non-denominational church led by Pastor David Sharp. David had served for many years in Pentecostal churches, and wanted to keep the healthy emotional aspect of those churches, but desired to see the Word of God taught in a more complete and structured manner. It was with this balance in mind that this family of believers began and how it continues today.

The family of believers at The Chapel has grown numerically, spiritually, and in genuine love for each other since that first service. In the fall of 2007 the church family moved into our first permanent home, a new facility on US 1 in north Ormond Beach. We believe that while many wonderful churches serve the Greater Daytona area, there is a need for this particular kind of ministry. We also know that God will continue to direct and lead as we are faithful to fulfill the calling He has placed on our lives.

Beliefs
We believe that there is one God. We believe He is eternal (always existed), omniscient (knows everything), omnipotent (can do anything), and omnipresent (always everywhere), and He exists in three distinct Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that God is the personal creator of all things as recorded in the book of Genesis.

We believe that Jesus was and is God the Son. We believe He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and that He performed many miracles by the power of the Holy Spirit. We believe He took all the sins of the world upon Himself at the cross, and paid the price for our sins through His death. We believe He was buried in a tomb, was bodily resurrected from the dead, and ascended to the right hand of God the Father.

We believe that God desires to have a personal relationship with the people He created, and that the only way to enter this relationship is by the repentance of sins and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We believe that when someone repents of sin and accepts Jesus Christ that person is immediately born again in the spirit. All sins are forgiven, and that person becomes a child of God prepared to spend eternity with the Lord.

We believe in the present ministry of God the Holy Spirit, that He alone can enable the Christian to live a godly life, and that His power and gifts are available to believers today. We believe love is more important than even the most spectacular gifts and without this love all exercise of spiritual gifts is worthless. We believe all exercises of the gifts of the Spirit should be accountable to the teachings in the Bible, and that the gifts should operate decently and in order at all times.

We believe the Bible is the Word of God. We believe it is given to us through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, is without error, and addresses every aspect of life in the world today.

We believe those who are saved will be raptured (caught up) by God, and there will then be a seven-year period called the Tribulation where Satan’s power will be completely unleashed. We believe Jesus will then make a personal and visible return to the earth to reign in power and glory.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, that the saved are resurrected to eternal life in the presence of God, and the lost are resurrected to eternal separation from the presence of God.

We believe in the regular celebration of the ordinances of water baptism and communion, that neither of these practices is necessary for salvation, but that they serve as a demonstration of our living faith in Christ.

We believe that God created mankind, and that He created them male and female. As such, He created them different so as to complement and complete each other. God instituted monogamous marriage between male and female as the foundation of the family and the basic structure of human society. Therefore, we perform marriages in accordance with the Bible consistent with the Old and New Testament.
